Mexico's Underwater Museum

Submerged 400ft+ in the Caribbean Sea near Cancun around the edges of a coral reef, Jason de Caires Taylor plans to debut over 400 sculptures in the Subaquatic Sculpture Museum sometime in 2011. All sculptures will be made with PH neutral concrete, with the hope that algae and other marine life will proliferate, giving the surrounding marine ecosystems a significant boost. 

“Drawing on various influences, the works will include both contemporary and Mayan narratives and develop the use of live propagated coral within the structures. The final piece will be entitled: La Evolución Silenciosa, the silent evolution.

With the advance of technology and the built environment, we seem to have lost our intrinsic link to nature.
